The Shank DVD Release for 26th July

The forthcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of Shank. The film, the debut feature from music video director Mo Ali, is a blistering social satire and gritty urban drama set a few years in the future when society has all but given up on inner city gangs who are now left to fight it out for food on the very mean streets of London.

With an amazing debut performance from Kedar Williams-Stirling and featuring hip hop star Bashy, as well as Kidulthood’s Adam Deacon, Skins’ Kaya Scodelario, former male model Jan Uddin and James Bond’s Colin Salmon, Shank is this year’s must-see British breakout movie.

Kano presents Get Wild

Kano presents Get Wild – a rowdy blast of devastating digital dancehall.  Following it’s premier radio play on Friday, the single has been made immediately available to buy and hear exclusively via Kano’s website: www.kanosworld.com
Recorded across 3 different capital cities – London, Berlin and Kingston – and mixed in New York, Get Wild sees Kano joined by Jamaican dancehall star Aidonia and maverick talent Wiley.  Ripping it up back to back, the trio concoct a head-spinning whirlwind of rapid-fire lyrics.  Berlin-based producer Boyz Noise, whose other recent credits include production for the new Kelis LP, crafts Get Wild’s compelling and boisterously banging beat.
Get Wild is the first taste of Kano’s all-new album, Method To The Maadness.  Now scheduled for a 30th August release, this much-anticipated record promises to be a heavyweight affair and will feature collaborations with Chase & Status, Hot Chip, Damon Albarn and others.
To celebrate the release of Method To The Maadness, Kano will be throwing a London launch party on 1st September at Bush Hall.  This one-off hometown show will feature special guests and provide fans with an unmissable opportunity to catch Kano performing past classics and new material.

Wiley is set to feature in Tom Hardy’s Mad Max Film

Wiley is set to feature in Tom Hardy’s Mad Max Film. Hardy was invited by Wiley to star in his new video for Electric Boogaloo, and Tom Hardy has returned the favour in a massive way. It’s widely expected that Wiley will star in the film alongside Hardy and Charlize Theron. Tom will be playing the classic role Mel Gibson played, while Charlize will be playing the Tina Turner role.

British National Party legal officer Lee Barnes has laid a criminal charge against LETHAL B

According to the BNP Blog (http://bnp.org.uk/2010/04/bnp-legal-officer-lays-criminal-charge-after-ghanaian-origin-rap-singer-urges-murder-of-nick-griffin-2/) we quote “British National Party legal officer Lee Barnes has laid a criminal charge against Ghanaian-origin rap singer “Lethal Bizzle” after he called for Nick Griffin’s murder on Twitter.

Lethal Bizzle, whose real name is Maxwell Ansah, sent out a Twitter message yesterday which read: “Got an idea, u wanna be famous? Kill the BNP leader, u will be a hero.”

Mr Barnes said this was a threat which could not be taken lightly.

“He is linked with black gun gangs in London and this constitutes a serious threat,” Mr Barnes said.

The Serious Crime Act 2007, section 45 states that a person commits an offence if:

(a)he does an act capable of encouraging or assisting the commission of an offence; and

(b)he believes–

(i)that the offence will be committed; and

(ii)that his act will encourage or assist its commission.

“Mr Ansah’s twitter is clearly an incitement to serious violence against Nick Griffin,” Mr Barnes said.

“Imagine if a threat like that had been issued by Mr Griffin against Mr Ansah. The BNP leader would have been arrested within minutes, but it seems that black rappers are somehow protected.”

Dear Supporter,

The General Election campaign is now well underway.  Regardless of what else happens, there is one issue for anti-racists to act on in this election and the local council elections also taking place on 6th May –  making sure that the fascist BNP can’t con their  way to their first MP or local council.

BNP fuhrer Nick Griffin is running to the MP for Barking in east London, and is polling well enough to have a chance of winning.  The BNP already have 12 seats on the local council there – and the whole council is up for re-election, meaning that the Nazis could take control of a local authority for the first time in British political history – with a budget of £300 MILLION at their disposal.  They will also be looking to build on their successes in grabbing two MEPs last June, by getting good results in other parts of the country.

But we can stop them.  We’ve been taking part in the excellent Unite Against Fascism Days of Action in Barking and Stoke and elsewhere (see www.uaf.org.uk to get involved).
In Barking we’re getting a great reception from most local people – with many who were not intending to vote now intending to vote purely to stop Nick Griffin.

If you haven’t already, register to vote by April 20th to get your chance to say No to the Nazi BNP.

Statement addressing the weekends events

In regards to the incident  on Saturday 10th April 2010. For those who attended; although we are grateful that you chose to celebrate our anniversary with us, we also regret that you were exposed that environment and subsequent disaster on the night.

The sole intention of the event was to celebrate the achievements of the Grime Daily team over the past year, and we extended the invitation to our supporters, friends and family. We apologise for any confusion or miscommunication about the purpose and nature of this event.
Our thoughts, prayers and concerns lie with the two individuals injured, and we hope that both are able to pull through and make a full and speedy recovery.

There was no grime music played at this event, and the events on the night should therefore not reflect anything to do with the genre grime. Grime Daily supports the talent and the future of UK music – particularly Grime, and we hope that neither the name or reputation of the scene have been tarnished by this event.

We would also like to make it clear that Grime Daily does not participate or endorse the violent behaviour committed by some individuals on the night. We can assure you all that this is an isolated incident, and the Grime Daily team will take every step necessary to ensure the safety of all attendees at any events we are associated with in the future.

For now, here’s quick thing I threw together in a week (7 days for real). GRIME DAILY REVIEW SHANK

“Hard hitting, frightening and amazing” was what described Shank at the premiere at Brixton Ritzy Cinema.

Mo Ali’s first film could go side – by – side with Noel Clarkes UK smash hits Kidulthood and Adulthood.

With the amazing acting from Bashy, Adam Deacon, Kaya Scodelario and surprises from Aml Ameen and Eddi Kadi, also the

young actresses and actors – they have made a film that will catch the tongues of all youths and possibly older.

From a silent jaw dropping beginning to a “Wowing” ending was the only way I could describe this film.

Everyone’s been waiting for another UK street comparison – and here it is. Not a film that represents now but also life in 2015.

Violence, sex, nitty gritty streets? If that sounds like you then this one’s for you.

Shank will be hitting all your good cinemas on the 26th March. So make sure you get your money ready and arrive early at doors because this will be a film

you would want to get early tickets and a seat for. “Hard hitting, frightening and amazing” was what described Shank at the premiere at Brixton Ritzy Cinema.

SHANK PREMIER LAST NIGHT

So we headed down to Brixton last night for the Shank Premier , which was pretty entertaining. Guests on night included D Double E, Bashy, Scorcher, Sincere, Javine, Kojo, Mclean, Eddie Kadi and many many more.

By the way if you have not seen the Trailer for Shank, this is it here below

We took a couple pics ….

Below are the young stars of the film, who we must say did a very good job!

Scorcher and Sincere below after a hectic trip on the red carpet, if heard the way the girls were screaming for Scorcher, like they just found out they wont ever have periods again. It was beyond a joke, leaving the rest of us feeling very unappreciated! lol

Below of course is the infamous Kojo also in attendance talking to one of our cameras

All   in all it was a good film, big Shouts to Bashy on his performance, and Mo the director for doing a great  job.

Make sure you all check out SHANK when it comes out!

Microphone Champion didn’t really live up to the so-promised hype, and whilst group efforts Too Many Man and We’re Goin In’ were enjoyable iPod fillers, as singles they had very limited success. But, that was last year, with the turn of the decade Skepta is back, and looking more promising than ever.

The initial track listing for Been There Done That had me feeling just a little bit sceptical, but after a make-over and an eventual release, this is a worthwhile CD. Proceedings are kicked off by Two Plus Two featuring the ever so easily identifiable rolling drum patterns battered by Skepta regularly, and it works well with a catchy hook and some nice rhyming, much like English Breakfast. Skepta’s always been able to make a catchy chorus – something quite evident on fan-favourite Nokia Charger Wire, after going along with the hook just once you’re drawn into the rest of the tune, and that’s not bad in any sense..

Of course we all know the Bloodline hold a special place in Grime’s archives, and with their recent return Over The Top 2 see’s the North London outfit linking up on a tune with Skepta once more, much like the good old days of Merdidan Crew ! Big H particularly stands out with his unique flow, and Bossman goes in as well ! There is a much more deeper appreciation of Skepta’s greezy-ness on tunes like this, and the intense factor can also be found on Spit Big Bars featuring the aforementioned distinct sounds of Skepta along with South Londoners Blacks and P Money (OG’s). The song title and likewise the chorus plays on an old D Double E lyric “I Spit Big Bars / Par With The Big Stars / In Big Cars / Heavy Heavy Leng That Will Leave Big Scars”, make sure to check out D Double’s Gunman Riddim to see what I mean. Blacks’ in-your-face style suits the rhythm well, and P Money’s ever un-catchable flow leaves you feeling slightly dazed !

Long term followers of Skepta’s transpiration from DJ to Producer/MC won’t be surprised to learn that there is something in store for the more “Rhythm and Grime” fan out there. All Over The House is an ode to love making – yep, you guessed it – all over the house. Majestic and Shorty feature also, the slow vibes break up the continuing onslaught of disgusting tunes, and B O Double S does a bit of the same. Another slow tune, but not vibe-wise, things are kept up-beat whilst something a little more rap-like is showcased as opposed to the grimier side of things. But not too worry though because the dirty, full on grime is non to distant. The glory days are brought back to life on Stupid Skeppy going in absolutely hardcore over his self produced classic DTI. The tune is actually one from his archives – so if you;ve heard that then you’ve got to have heard Private Caller 2.

It’s the first in the 3-deep string of instrumentals available, it’s electronic gloryness is followed up by the ultimate Grime/Dubstep hybrid UFO. Made famous by Big H on Big Hooligan last year, the beat is being used on a shitload of sets, MC’s are screaming out for it ! It’s wave-like pitch lines sit well for easy listening, much like Red Bull Academy !! The instrumentals come as a tidy little bonus for this CD, the vocal offering is supreme enough on it’s own and for once a Skepta CD that I don’t have to trim down to conserve valuable MP3 space.

Blatently Blunt Talks to the – Producer of one of 2010’s BIGGEST instrumental’s ‘Woooo Riddim

Producer of one of 2010’s BIGGEST instrumental’s ‘Woooo Riddim’, S-X, [CAN BE HEARD HERE RIGHT BELOW] with cameos from Tempta t and more ]   is a member of the Midland based Stay Fresh Crew, who have been making some big moves recently, including being featured on Tim Westwood’s Crib Sessions. I caught up with him…

How long have you been producing?

I’ve been producing since I was like 11 when my friend gave me Fruity Loops 3 and I was like “oh shit, you can actually make music on just a laptop”.  I pretty much just went from there. I’m 17 now so that’s 6 years, but I decided that this is what I wanted to do as a career about a year and a half ago.

How did StayFresh start?

Damn, StayFresh started back in like 05, 06 those kind of times and was pretty much one of the biggest teams out in the Midlands. It then went quiet for about 2 years and it came back in 2008. I met Jamie Dred at a radio station and gave him 2 of my instrumental mixtapes which I had been selling to buy some equipment and he could see I was hard working and had a good vision of where I wanted to take my music. So I got put in work with StayFresh, along with MenacEivy, Casper, Macca, Raider, MoVeZ, J1, Saf.One, Deadly, P.R.E, NatzSoBossy, Moky & Mental. We’ve also got Jamie Dred and Despa for management and we’ve just been going hard since then man, we’ve put out 7 mixtapes and 3 music videos all in two years, which is pretty cool.

I hear you’re working with some producers outside the UK, what’s going on with that?

Yeah man, I mean you know, I think to get somewhere in this game you got to be able to connect and stay connected, so I’ve been working really hard on that side. I won’t say any names but people are definitely going to be interested and hopefully proud that I’m going to be putting the UK on the map.

Which Midlands artists should we look out for?

I think you should get ready for Macca; he is part of the StayFresh label. I think he is going to do really well over the next 2 years; he has got a mixtape dropping soon called ‘Reborn’ which is sounding really good! There are other midlands artists such as Trilla, Raider, J1, MenacEivy and a few more, but they’re all part of the StayFresh team, you can check them out on www.stayfreshdigital.com.

How is the Midlands grime scene different to London or say, Manchester?

I wouldn’t really say its ‘different’ as such, because we do the same music, I think it’s just a lot harder for Midlands MCs to get known in London and get the same level of respect as people who come from there. But I think it’s about the music, if you’ve got good music, what can go wrong?

Who in grime do you like at the moment?

In grime right now I like Skepta, he’s just done the ‘Bad Boy’ song, which is commercial but he’s also dropped the ‘Been There Done That’ mixtape which I really like. I’m also feeling P Money, Devlin, Wiley, and StayFresh (of course) and really just anyone who makes good music and works hard. I respect the hustle more than the music, but the music has to be good of course.

Have you had much mainstream response been to ‘Wooo Riddim’?

Not so much mainstream response but underground definitely! Everyone I’ve played it do really likes it so I really hope it does well, people keep saying it’s the best Grime beat of 2010 and we’re only 2 months in, that is crazy! We’re looking to release it around April/May, but also thanks to that beat, it’s opened up a few doors which I hope works out well.
